H is for Haute Cuisine! Yes, Haute Cuisine – another French’s contribution to the culinary world. Ok! So it is a French word but what does it mean and where it came from and is it used today are some of the questions I will try to answer through my H post.

Coming back to the definition or meaning of the word Haute Cuisine. According to wikipedia Haute Cuisine or Grande cuisine refers to the cuisine of “high level” establishments, gourmet restaurants and luxury hotels in France. According to the Free Dictionary the Haute Cuisine refers to an elaborate or skilfully prepared food, especially that of France and the characteristic style of preparing such food.

Ok so Haute Cuisine came from France and means Grande food cooked in an elaborate manner, but is it still prevalent today? Yes Haute Cuisine is available at all the big hotels, which take pride in serving this cuisine for it requires not just skills in cooking but also in presentation!
